Tickets Still Available for Saturday's American Beer Classic

Fellow beer lovers, I am nearly back from my hibernation: I have actually managed to finish one of two projects needed for a grade in my Web Development class. That project was the Google Calendar query and formatting app for my beer calendar that’s already in use: just needed one last tweak: to have the date field default to today’s date so it’ll be easier to deal with the app’s need to use the ‘yyyy-mm-dd’ format.

But I’m passing along this reminder of a very unusual circumstance: there are still tickets available for the inaugural American Beer Classic, happening this Saturday, May 11 at Soldier Field.

Soldier FieldUsually by the time I get to announce these beer festivals. tickets are already sold out. But I have been assured by the organizers, Red Frog Events, that tickets will be reserved for sales on the day of the event. As with most beer fests, sampling have been offered in two sessions: Session I, 12:00 - 4:00 pm, are sold out. General admission tickets for session II, 6:00 - 10:00 pm, will be $55 through May 6, $60 until the 10th, and $70 at the door. Check on current ticket status here.

General Admission tickets will include a sampling cup, access to Soldier Field, South Courtyard, and Mezzanine levels, an American Beer Classic booklet, and 48 two-ounce samples. Additional vouchers that may be redeemed for 8 two-ounce samples may be purchased at the event for $2.00.

There are also VIP tickets available at $110 that will grant you access to the festival an hour earlier, a VIP lounge, a tour of Soldier Field, and 60 two-ounce samples. There’s also a Designated Driver ticket with access to an alcohol-free lounge.

"We're thrilled to bring American Beer Classic to life," says Arielle Bluestein, American Beer Classic Director. "We're working hard until May to bring people together to celebrate beer on the iconic Soldier Field."

Here's a mostly complete list of brewers that will be represented at this soiree. I was just forwatrded a partial list of some of the beers that will be pouring. Yeah, like we needed another place to get Summer Shandy, but there are sure to be some interesting one-off's or tap-only pours here:

This festival, and the many other festivals both homegrown and commercialized, are helping to put Chicago on the map as a great beer destination. This one can helps fill gap between Dark Lord Day and American/Chicago Craft Beer Week.

Meantime, I may be back shortly with another brewery's pre-CCBW announcement.
