Chicago Craft Beer Week Highlights, Tue., May 21

I've had to really pare down the huge list of events today, mostly to focus on local brewers or rare beers. As always, check the button up top for the full schedule.

Tuesday, May. 21

Battle of the Breweries Tap Takeover and Arcade Tournament

Revolution Brewing and Half Acre Beer Company will be hosting a "Battle of the Breweries" tap takeover and bracketed arcade tournament at Emporium Arcade Bar. The tournament will begin on Tuesday, 5/21 at 5pm and will conclude with the championship rounds on Wednesday, 5/22. There will be prizes and awards supplied by each of the participating breweries, so you won't want to miss this! The list of participating breweries is indeed epic and includes the likes of Solemn Oath, Haymarket, Metropolitan, Begyle, Spiteful, and Three Floyds, as well as Rev and Half Acre.
Each brewery will recruit a team of twelve competitors, each proficient in one of the following games: Asteroids, Burger Time, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Galaga, Ms. Pacman, Pacman, Paperboy, Q Bert, Space Invaders, Super Mario Bros., and Tapper (duh).

On Tuesday May 21st, Roots will be releasing Founders Doom. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft, Doom is an imperial IPA aged in bourbon barrels for four months. From Founders we also have Frangelic Mountain in 750 ml bottles and Kentucky Breakfast Stout on draft.

5:00 pm ♦ Goose Island Bourbon County Tap Takeover

Join us as we celebrate Craft Beer Week with the long awaited Goose Island Bourbon County Tap Takeover! We will be featuring 6 Bourbon County Stouts on tap, including the highly acclaimed and sought after Bourbon County Cherry Rye! Tickets for Cherry Rye will be issued to the first 60 people in line. All other draughts are first come, first served. Doors open at 5 pm.

We'll be tapping the final keg of Sixpoint 3beans available in the Chicagoland area. This beautiful beer is a Baltic porter that has chocolate, coffee, and romano beans. We're going to have other specialty beers on draft, and the Crisp available for $4. Live entertainment.

The nationally recognized craft beer website GuysDrinkingBeer.com and Chicago beer destination The Green Lady are excited to announce the followup to last year’s successful “South of 80” beer event, affectionately called “South of 80 2.0.”
Representatives from five breweries are expected to be on hand to show off their creations, many of which have never been available in Chicago before – some of which have never even been north of I-80, the demarcation line that has come to “define” Northern Illinois from all points south. All beers will be available in flights and full pours.

All of us beer fanatics like to think of ourselves as veritable fountains of knowledge. We're going to put you to the test, and crown a champion of beer trivia. Verbal questions will narrow down the field, followed by a blind tasting for the finalists. We'll have Atlas gear and other prizes for those who come out on top!

  • A Discussion of the history of Belgian sours and sour blending vs. their American counterparts with prominent examples of the style

Experience the evolving world of fruit, funk, and acid with historical inference, blatant criticism, and of course, a fair amount of beer drinking should be expected.
