So much news has been going on the past few weeks, I'm just going to try and summarize it when the itch strikes me:
Spiteful Brewing of Chicago has delivered bottles of its first brew, GFY Imperial Stout, to liquor store accounts and bars. Some of their Facebook friends report they are sold out already.
Flesk Brewing Co. of Lombard reports they have received their state craft brewing license and are ready to begin production.
Lagunitas held a preview of the brewpub space at their forthcoming Chicago brewery on the southwest side, for the trade only. The brewpub is a mezzanine overlooking the entire 250 barrel operation. A little bird dog says the steel for the brewery itself is still being fabricated in Germany, and may take up to a year to be shipped and installed. There's a lot of breweries being built these days!
The news about Off Color Brewing, another new start-up, has been thoroughly digested by now. Owners John Laffler and Dave Bleitner were heads of the barrel programs at Goose Island and Two Brothers, respectively. Tribune beer beat writer Josh Noel reported, though, that the two are taking a slightly different direction, bringing up more obscure styles like göse and kottbusser (a brown wheat ale with honey and molasses).

You will learn about the colorful history of this important Chicago neighborhood, look at its many building styles in new ways, and drink at a few of Lakeview’s favorite pubs, including one or two you might not think to go to on your own. Do you know what a “tied house” is? You’ll find out. We’ll visit two of them - and one is a bowling alley! Along the way we’ll visit a toy store, see how the neighborhood has transformed in recent years, tour a church. In the process you’ll also gain insight into Chicago’s ethnic character and its history as a beer city. All of the pubs have very good choices in drinks, and our last stop has a superb collection of beers. Participants will pay for their own drinks at each stop.
