Chicago Weekend Craft Beer Highlights, November 16-18

Chicago Weekend Craft Beer Highlights, November 16-18

I'm going to try and keep the calendar feature running again. This is thanks to an app I wrote to better format listings from my Google Calendar, which should cut down on my editing time. Besides, I need to offer alternatives for those of us without FoBAB tickets!

Friday, Nov. 16

3:00 pm • 5730.06 Miles of Beer
Local Option, 1102 W. Webster Ave., Chicago (773) 348-2008
Local Option hosts “5730.06 Miles of Beer.” Beer nerds from around the world will flock to 1102 W. Webster to bask in the glory of superb draught offerings from a collection of breweries spanning two continents and seven countries. The event’s name evinces the distance between St. Feuillien (Le Roeulx, Belgium) and Green Flash (San Diego California) who collaborated in the creation of two beers on the list: Friendship Brew – a black saison that utilizes European and American hops, Belgian yeast and spices – and Biere de l’Amitie, a contemporary take on the blond saison with rye and wheat malt, and dry-hopped with Amarillo. Intrepid souls will be able to try the first offering from the world’s most recently anointed Trappist brewery Stift Engelszell (Austria).

DRAFT LIST: BFM XIV (La Quatorze), Dark Horse One Oatmeal Stout, De Dolle Arabier & Dulle Teve 10º (Mad Bitch), Emelisse White Label Barley Wine Jack Daniel’s BA & Imperial Russian Stout Sorachi Ace Single Hop, Engelszell Gregorius, Evil Twin All Occasions, Founders Backwoods Bastard, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, Great Divide Fresh Hop & Oak Aged Yeti, Green Flash / St. Feuillien Friendship Brew, Green Flash Double Stout & Retro Extra Pale Ale, Haandbryggeriet Bestefar, Hof Ten Dormaal Barrel Aged Project 5 (Sherry) & Project 6 (Porto), Hoppin’ Frog Hopped Up Goose Juice, Jandrain-Jandrenouille IV Saison, Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela, Local Option Bierwerker Schmetterling Gose, Ölvisholt Lava, Oskar Blues G’Knight *Nitro*, Port Brewing High Tide Fresh Hop & Hop 15, St. Bernardus Christmas, St. Feuillien / Green Flash Biere de l’Amitie, St. Feuillien Saison, Stillwater Autumnal, Struise Ignis et Flamma

4:00 - 8:00 pm • Very Mad Cow Release
Revolution Brewing Co. - Kedzie Brewery, 3340 N. Kedzie Ave., Chicago (773) 588-CANS
Very Mad Cow, our barrel aged Mad Cow Milk Stout, is the first of our Deep Woods Series to get the bottle treatment in 22's and it will be on sale only direct to customers at our Kedzie Ave. brewery. Aged six months in Woodford Reserve barrels this beer is what you would call smooth and sells for $15 a bottle. Very Mad Cow sales will begin to our dedicated Mug Club members at 4pm, with sales to the general public from 5pm-10pm. This is a limited release of around 5000 bottles and we will enforce a 4 bottle limit per person and keep it on sale until it sells out. We have more Very Mad Cow aging away in bourbon barrels for a spring release along with Straight Jacket (barrel aged barley wine) coming out in November and Mean Gene in early 2013.

We thought we'd hit you with a 1-2 and release this time so our World Beer Cup Gold medal winning Rise American Stout will be for sale in bombers too and you should see it in stores the next week. Priced nice at only $9/bottle, you can grab as much Rise as you please. Lastly, we've got Bean Gene, our Eugene Porter that has been bourbon barrel aged with coffee beans at the brewpub that will be available on draft that day at both locations. After you've tucked away some bottles under your arm, cozy up to the bar for a snifter of this little slice of heaven (sorry no free samples for the mug club on this one).

Northdown Cafe & Taproom, 3244 N. Lincoln Ave. Chicago, IL 60657
Join Northdown in kicking off FOBAB all proper-like!
We’re hosting the fellas from Against the Grain and their bad ass artist, Robby Davis for one helluva night of bones, boobs and beer. Barrel-aged beer from Against the Grain to be exact!
Against the Grain is Louisville’s only brewer-owned brewery and is, like most worthwhile undertakings, the product of dissatisfaction with the status quo. The Louisville area has had a number of quality brewpubs for some time now, but still there was simply not enough beer! Against the Grain is an effort to help solve this problem. AtG maintains a diverse array of beers covering all of the major categories of beer flavor while generating an endless stream of innovative new brews. In short, everything is “specialty.” Boredom will be extremely difficult.
Original artwork, original beers!

  • Have you been to Brew Fest at the Racine Zoo? I went there for the first time this summer and had a blast. So much so I wrote about it for another blog. Pretzel necklaces are the truth!

  • In reply to Aaron DeDobbelaere:

Have heard much about it. I've even listed it until the growth of the beer bar scene in Chicago forced me to narrow my focus. You may link to your post in this space, I won't stop you!
