Already I'm running behind. But I did get to the Solemn Oath debut at Bavarian Lodge as I write this evening. Once again, an hour or two at a great beer bar sampling some new, wonderful beers. Can't get much better than this.

(I remember when the Goose brewpub first opened in the corner of a run-down warehouse. Its second floor featured “Artgolf,” an installation of a mini gold game with individual holes designed by the likes of Ed Paschke, Tony Fitzpatrick, and Lynda Barry. That building was later torn down, leaving only Goose Island.)
In celebration of Chicago Craft Beer Week and ideas hatched over pints, Goose Island and fellow Illinois Craft Brewers have created a nine hole minigolf course in Goose Island – Fulton’s Barrel Warehouse. Come practice the ancient samurai art of putt putt and see why maybe brewers should just stick to making beer! Because ticket numbers are low, we are raffling off the chance to purchase tickets to this event. Click this link to enter the random drawing. Tee times will be available to be selected from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Beer from Goose Island and participating breweries. Tickets will only be sold in pairs at 20 per person. There will be a minute of silence to honor “The Macho Man” followed by an “OOOOOHHHH YEAAAHHHHH!” That will shake the ground of River North! While discussing the range of flavors that can be found in beer, we will do side by side taste comparisons to give an understanding of the different ingredients and how they play a rolé in creating beer styles. This tasting session will also help you to understand what your preferences are within the scope of beer styles, making it easier to buy a beer that you’ll enjoy.Dave Kahle is a Master Cicerone, one of just four people to have earned the title. He has earned certificates from the Siebel Institute/World Brewing Academy, in Brewing Technology, Sensory Panel Management, and Brewing Microbiology, as well as having an Advanced Draft Tech certificate from the Micro Matic Draft Institute. This experience and beer education has lead him to work for the Cicerone Certification Program. He works as a consultant and beer educator when he’s not grading, writing and proctoring Cicerone exams.
