This is a change I'd planned for a while now, but circumstances at home have forced to do it now. My twice-a-week calendar listings for craft beer events will now reside on the calendar section of the chitownontap blog.
I've had to make this move for a couple of reasons. First is because since I started blogging about the Chicago craft beer scene in 2008, that scene has simply exploded. There were about a dozen craft brewers in the Chicago area then. I count about 38 places that make or at least put their names on a beer, and there are now a dozen just in the planning stages. There are more craft beer bars, gastropubs, and liquor stores with an active craft beer program than ever before. Meaning that calendar articles I could knock off in a few hours now keep me up until 2 am three nights a week. And my need to search for a job and do college coursework that might qualify me for a job has forced my hand. I'm still actively trolling for good beer events, and posting them to the new calendar site. Late-breaking news and little details like new kegs being tapped are posted to my Facebook fan page. And they bounce right on to my Twitter feed. Then, once I get done with this semester at IIT, I hope to bring on more feature stories, and maybe preview some events before they're sold out.
In other news, I just now noticed that in my article offering Newcastle glasses and a rolling cooler as prizes, I forgot to put in the paragraph about how to actually enter for the merchandise. Ow (hitting self in forehead)! That's fixed. Go to the article and leave a comment with a valid way to contact you, and I'll make a drawing after midnight, April 30!
