After averting a shutdown this previous January, Limestone Brewing Co. has shut its doors in Plainfield, and announced they will open a new location in Aurora’s Fox Valley area.
Limestone’s owners, Hospitality Development Group LLC, made the announcement on Saturday, March 24.
“It has been a tremendous couple of years,” the announcement quotes General Manager Jason Rosendahl. “Unfortunately we couldn’t come to terms with our landlord who is facing his own set of problems with the foreclosure of his property.”
The new location’s address has not been disclosed yet, but Rosendahl added that it’s a high traffic area with a large patio space. Brewmaster Ken McMullen added that at the new brewpub, “We are going to literally immerse parts of the brewing process directly into the backdrop of every guest’s Limestone Brewpub experience.”
The notice expects the new Aurora Limestone to open in June. A new web site is taking e-mail subscribers at Limestonebrewers.com.
Owners of Limestone’s Plainfield location, North Plainfield Crossing at 12337 S. Route 59, have been facing foreclosure and a loss of tenants, including World Gym, Cozy Corner restaurant and a Sweet Peppers Thai restaurant. The new owners are Ardmin Properties of Woodridge. An article about the closing by Janet Lundquist in the Joliet Herald-News carries an announcement by Plainfield Mayor Mike Collins that the space has been eased to the Tommy Nevins corporation. The space would be a different restaurant concept than the three current Tommy Nevins Pubs.
Limestone Brewing Company opened in December 2009, featuring McMullen’s beers, and adding a performance space to the Plainfield area. Their departure leaves the entire Joliet area without a craft beer-themed destination. Finnegan's Irish Pub in downtown Plainfield was closed last September over licensing issues with the village. Finnegan's owner Dale Lewis, and Limestone's founding partner Steve Caton, put on the first Midwest Brewer's Fest last August as a fundraiser to restore Plainfield's Riverfront area, site of Electric Park, a 1900's resort. Planning is under way for MWBF 2012.
