Beeronaut's Chicago Highlights, March 19-22

Beeronaut's Chicago Highlights, March 19-22

So you didn't get a Dark Lord Day ticket, and you see them being offered for $250 and up on the legalized scalping sites. Well, there's also a WhiskyFest Chicago this Saturday. That's sold out, too, but somehow WhiskyFest is translating to some good beer events below:

Monday, March 19

Farmhouse Chicago, 228 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago (312) 280-4960
Farmhouse will be hosting a four-course prix fix meal along with our friends at Harvest Moon Farms and Two Brothers Brewing. The four-course meal includes wine and beer pairings and will cost $40, which does not include tax and tip. This your chance to learn more about Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Farmhouse Tavern will be a drop-off point for Harvest Moon Farms organic produce and products this summer, and this event is a great opportunity to get to know your farmers as well as enjoy the fruits of their labor. By supporting a CSA program you can help the farm by committing to buying your share before the growing season then enjoy the bounty of the farm weekly as produce and products are available. A single share is less than $30 per week, and you can learn much more at this dinner. Check the Farmhouse website link above for menu information.

Rock Bottom, 94 Yorktown Ctr., Lombard, IL (630) 424-1550
Solemn Oats is a collaboration beer betwixt the Brewing Mastermind at Solemn Oath and your friendly neighborhood Rock Bottom Brewer. Since Tim Marshall was previously the brewer at Rock Bottom Yorktown, this seemed like the perfect way to bridge the gap between brewpub and packaging microbrewery. It is well known that Mr. Marshall makes incredible hoppy zany beers and this is no different. Solemn Oats is the first and possibly last Oat Barleywine ever made. The mash tun grain record was dashed to little bitty bits as we stirred a hundred pounds of dry oats into a barely wet mash for over 30 minutes. This Oatwine is over 10% abv and full of delicious hoppy fruitiness and smooth oaty maltiness. Come and get the first offering of Solemn Oath, or is it Oats?
