I'm inputting this while watching Ken Burns' new documentary on Prohibition. Fascinating stuff. It has inspired me to get another beer. And I'll try to get something substantial from the GABF as well, but meantime here's the list of winners.

Monday, October 3

5:00 - 11:00 p.m. Southern Tier Pumking Tapping

It’s that time of year!!! We are tapping everyone’s favorite Pumpkin beer Southern Tier Pumking at 5:00. Stop by for a beer and stay for some BBQ.

5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Beer & Wine Smackdown!

We will be pairing five Vintage Ales from Goose Island Beer Company against five wines, paired with five different gourmet cheeses and letting you be the judge, what pairs better, wine or beer? A few examples of what we'll be matching up: Does Mt. Beautiful Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand or Sofie pair better with Fresh Chevre? Does Regusci Estate Merlot, Stag's Leap California or Pere Jacque pair better with Aged Gouda? Please RSVP (847-446-2716 or $10 per person / $7 for Wine or Beer of the Month Members.

Tuesday, October 4

6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Gnome Night at Northdown Cafe & Taproom

We’ll be featuring one of our favorite Belgian breweries, Brasserie d’Achouffe. We will be pouring McChouffe and Houblon Chouffe Dobbelen IPA Tripel on draft as well as bottles of La Chouffe. A representative from the brewery will be on hand giving out Gnome hats, glassware, and-other Gnome inspired gear.

6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Rock Bottom Chicago Beer School

On the first Tuesday of each month from 6 to 8 pm, we will be conducting an in-depth tour and tutored tasting at our brewery. Classes meet in the State Room, on the second floor of our restaurant. We are limiting this to 25 "students" each month and seats can be reserved, for $15 per person, by calling (312) 755-1677. Classes conducted by our Brewmaster include brewery tour, discussion of beer styles, history, and flavor profiles, light snacks, and tastings of every beer currently on tap. This month's subject is Oktoberfest beers; featuring Rocktoberfest and Paulaner Oktoberfest, paired with jalapeño jack cheese, spicy sausage, or our carrot cake.

6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Emmett's Brewmaster Dinner

Join us for one of our Brewmaster Dinners. The event starts with a beer reception where attendees can sample their choice of any of our handcrafted beers. During the reception hour Brewmaster, Ryan Clooney and Head Brewer Rob Hunter, will conduct tours of our brewery and explain the beer making process. During dinner our chef and Ryan will passionately explain their handiwork and how it applies to each of the five delicious courses. The price for this unique culinary experience is $59.95 per person, plus tax. Brewmaster Dinners are held quarterly.

Join Sheffield's for a huge sampling of exceptional beers focused on the fall season. The tickets will be sold the day of the event. A $25 ticket buys you access to over 100 beers from over 30 breweries from the portfolio of Louis Glunz Beer, Chicago's Merchants of Fine Beers. A great opportunity to try some fantastic beers in our beer garden. Proceeds from this event will go the Disabled Patriot Fund. In addition we have 3 rare barrels: Dogfish Head Hellhound on My Ale (tapping at 8:00 p.m.) & Bitches' Brew (9:00 p.m.), and Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout (10:00 p.m.). For an opportunity to purchase one these exceptional beers we will be selling raffle for $1 all proceeds go to Disabled Patriots Fund. No limit on ticket purchasing. Beers will be tapped each hour and raffle numbers will be announced 30 minutes before each beer is tapped.

SmallBar Division is hosting a one day tap event with Chef Cleetus Friedman of City Provisions and Nick Baron, Head Brewer of Flossmoor Station Brewery. This is an exclusive event where Cleetus will be tapping Kirsch Von Blücher, a sweet cherry dunkel weiss beer, which was originally introduced at City Provisions as the first of Chef Cleetus’s brewing series—only available at City Provisions & Flossmoor Station.
