Our 2011 Great American Beer Festival Pro Am entry is Black Beaver, the Best of Show Winner at the Brewers of South Suburbia's Chicago Beer Cup, brewed by Dustin Kirk and Dennis Nee. This German style Schwarz Bier is a smooth dark lager with some roasted notes and a clean dry finish. Hopefully it will continue with its award winning form in Denver.

We'll start at Brew Camp with a lesson on beer: the ingredients, how it's made, and notes on tasting. Then we're off to Back of the Yards, where we'll tour The Plant, a vertical farm and the home of the New Chicago Brewing Company. Post-tour, we'll ride to Haymarket Pub and Brewery for lunch and beer, and conclude at a beer bar for a few more brews. This is the inaugural year for the Midwest Brewers Festival. Over 60 brewpubs and microbreweries from the Midwest will descend upon the beautiful 80 acre Riverfront Park overlooking the Du Page River in Plainfield, Illinois to serve and enjoy great beer and great food with American Craft Beer lovers from all around the Midwest. 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Chicago Heritage Craft Brewfest

Join us in the Fifth Province Pub for our first annual celebration of craft brews! We'll host local breweries for an open sampling of their best brews. Enjoy live music and food for purchase, made with some of the brews in their recipes, as you sample some of the finest craft brews around.
Featured breweries include Guinness, Heineken, Half Acre Brewing Company, the Chicago Beer Company, Samuel Adams, Batch 19, Leinenkugel, Blue Moon and Magic Hat.
The tasting runs from noon to 4pm and includes the tasting samples, live music with Machine Gun Mojo and LTD and food available for purchase. Stay all day for the tasting and enjoy a cash bar from 4pm-7pm.

1:00 p.m. City Provisions Farm Dinner
Heritage Prairie Farm & Apiary, Elburn, IL
City Provisions closes out the season out with a pretty special farm dinner. First, will tour the farm and greenhouses, then walk over to the Red Farm to tour the Apiary. Michael Killmer of Templeton Rye will greet you with a special honey rye cocktail, while Bronwyn Weaver of Heritage Prairie Farm gives you a quick overview of the apiary. Go into the apiary, then to the honey house where you will witness the harvesting of the 2011 City Provisions Vintage. At the farm dinner, Doug Hurst of Metropolitan Brewing will debut a collaboration with City Provisions, a "dunkel doppel rye bock" aged in a Templeton Rye. There will be the whiskey from said barrel, and Chef Cleetus will be breaking down the barrel and smoking a bunch of food for the dinner. Call it "three degrees of the barrel" at our dinner.
