4:00 - 11:30 p.m. It Might Get Farmy - A Night Of Saisons
Fountainhead, 1970 W. Montrose Ave., Chicago (773) 697-8204
Summer is here and we figured this would be a great time to continue our "It Might Get..." style themed night events with the refreshingly summer stylings of the French/Belgian Farmhouse Ales know as SAISONS! A refreshing, medium to strong fruity/spicy ale with a distinctive yellow-orange color, highly carbonated, well hopped, and dry with a quenching acidity. A seasonal summer style originally produced in Wallonia, Belgium, at the end of the cool season to last through the warmer months before refrigeration was common. It had to be sturdy enough to last for months but not too strong, to be quenching and refreshing in the summer. So with that we give you the Draft List:
Saison Dupont, North Coast Le Merle, Green Flash Summer Saison, Avery 18th Anniversary Dry-Hopped Rye Saison, Ommegang Belgian Independence Day Saison, St. Feuillien Saison, Stillwater Artisanal Cellar Door, The Bruery Saison de Lente, St. Somewhere Saison Athene, Lost Abbey Carnival, Goose Island Sofie, Urthel Saisonniere, Sierra Nevada Abbey Saison, Stillwater Brewer's Art Debutante, New Holland Golden Cap, De Proef Broederlijke Liefde, and a very special keg of Half Acre / Shorts collaboration Captain Fantasy

7:00 p.m. Clown Shoes Beer Tasting
The Map Room, 1949 N. Hoyne Ave., Chicago (773) 252-7636
Clown Shoes beers were only to be found in New England until recently, and Map Room was one of the first bars in Illinois to carry them. The beers are the creation of Gregg Berman, who has been contract brewing them at the Mercury Brewery (AKA Ipswich Ale Brewery) in Massachusetts. Come in on Thursday and taste a couple of his fine ales. Hoppy Shoes, a 7% Black IPA (Cascadian Dark) brewed with lots of Amarillo and Columbus hops and premium dark malts. Grapefruit and pine are balanced on the nose and on the palate by a nutty, dark chocolate, roasted backbone. Brown Angel Double Brown Ale (7%, 40 IBU), a "sexy American interpretation" of the brown ale style brewed with Maris Otter malt, Amarillo and Columbus hops, and then late-hopped with the classic English hop, East Kent Golding. The result is a dark brown beer with notes of chocolate and coffee, firm bitterness and citrusy flavor from the American hops, and a floral finish from the EKGs.

3. Holy Moses White Ale – Perhaps the last barrel in Chicago of this Belgian Wit spiced with orange peel, chamomile and coriander.
4. Edmund Fitzgerald – Great Lakes’ flagship porter.
5. Dortmunder Gold – A smooth German style lager that is the flagship beer of the brewery.
6. Elliot Ness Amber Lager – Rich, caramel malt flavors balanced by crisp noble hops.
7. Burning River Pale Ale – An American pale ale with citrusy and piney hops.
While supplies last, buy a Great Lakes Beer and keep the glass. Dortmunder Gold will be on special, $4.50/Pint.
