The richness of spoils that is Our Town's access to quality beers just increased big time. Firestone Walker is set to fill shelves and taphandles throughout the city with its "Proprietor's Reserve" series.Firestone Walker brewer Matt Brynildson has some deep Chicago ties: he's a former head brewer at Goose Island; a founding partner at Piece Pizzeria and Brewery who was responsible for bringing in Jonathan Cutler as brewmaster there; and Revolution Brewing's Jim Cibak worked for him at Firestone Walker. Anyway, Firestone Walker is publicly launching its arrival in Chicago with a huge kickoff at Piece. Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery,
1 W. Grand Ave., Chicago (312) 755-9339
A special double-tapping featuring the new seasonal Frostbite Ale, Belgian-style Quadruple, and the introduction of "I'll Be Bock" Winter Lager. "We are especially excited to pour I'll be Bock, a winning recipe selection from our recent Facebook 'Name Your Beer' contest. The winning suggestion came from Mug Club member, Shane Cheary. He requested a hefty Bock (dark German-style lager) beer suitable for the winter months. Shane guest brewed this traditional, dark lager with us. Rich malt flavors dominate this brew and a nice warming finish makes this a great beer for cold months. Quadruples are some of the strongest beers brewed. Engrained in the Trappist tradition of Belgian brewing, these ales were a staple, fortfying drink which sustained monks during their routines of fasting. The Frostbite has a big, sweet, and spicy malt character, complemented by floral hop aromas, and finishes in a warm and cordial embrace."
