I was contacted recently by the producer of a show called Why We Watch on the very popular sports website Bleacher Report (a place I also frequent and post articles) to see if I had interest in what they produce. Aimee Denaro, the producer of the show, thought it might fit well with many of the topics I cover on my sports blog at ChicagoNow.
Always one to follow up on what sounded like a good lead I said “sure,” and proceeded to their video postings to take a look at what they offer.
Now, as some of you may know, I am an emotional guy when it comes to overcoming adversity, demonstrations of sportsmanship, and just plain old dedication and hard work. Stories having that type of focus just…touch me emotionally on the inside. They are part of the essence of what a True Champion is all about, at least from my perspective.
It took me less then a minute of viewing one video, and less on a second, to then pause both and quickly email Aimee back stating that “YES, I am very interested” and that she had put together some really “great stuff.” She then linked me up with their most recent production Chasing Silver: The 200m Usain Bolt 2008 Olympic Race, Why We Watch.
Ok…how can I put this without giving too much of the story away, and still inspire you to watch this video? Let’s see…how about this…the following video deserves to be in the good sportsmanship HALL of FAME as you would be hard pressed to find another athlete willing to…!!!
