Over this last summer I have highlighted several pieces on illegal performance-enhancements in sports, including the very popular sport of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).
In several of those articles I discuss the idea that if someone in power really wanted to make a difference in the use of PED’s, they would do more random testing over a longer period of time before competitions. I even suggest making it mandatory for professional (elite level) athletes throughout their career. And yes, that would most certainly include MMA fighters.
I also detailed WADA’s idea of instituting a biological passport where an athlete’s biological variables are measured and kept track of so that they can be measured for differences that occur in future tests, things that would likely indicate PED use. And I highlighted MMA lightweight B.J. Penn’s stance on illegal performance-enhancement practices by his peers, giving him kudos for taking a stand against them.
Well, it appears that he is not the only one as light heavyweight Krzysztof Soszynski also seems to have similar feelings. Check out this video interview on MMA hour: http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/08/17/krzysztof-soszynski-says-at-least-85-percent-of-fighters-defini/
Yep, even some pretty good MMA fighters would like to see actions being taken that would make the playing field a little more even.
Hey, guys in power, you listening???
