Tampa Comes Straight Out of Left Field on "Chrysalis"

Windy City wordsmith Tampa recently put out a brand new single entitled "Chrysalis," and this song is easily one of the more bizarre offerings to appear here on City of Wind.

The instrumental is dark and twisted. The boom bap drums give it something of an old school vibe, and the synths remind me of something straight out of the underground. The track has a nocturnal aesthetic with a psychedelic edge.

Adding to that psychedelic feel is Tampa's lyrical performance. His bars are a colorful collage of horror-core, trippy imagery and philosophical musings. His rhyme-schemes are dense and diverse, and there's a haunting sense of urgency in his voice that constitutes panic.

Overall, there is something deliciously unsettling about "Chrysalis." Everything about this song is straight out of left field. The mind-bending instrumental, the the twisted, off-kilter lyrics, and the psychedelic vibe are all indications too Tampa's experimental impulses.

What he attempted here was quite risk. However, Tampa not only hit a home run with this track, he knocked the ball out of the stadium entirely.

"Chrysalis" is now available on all platforms.
