Few Chicago MC's bring as much honesty on the mic as Radcliff Music does, and he continues that trend on his new single, "Not The Gimic."
The instrumental, which is produced by E'zz, is a soulful callback to a previous era. The string loops on here are gorgeous and the percussion is subtle yet hard-hitting. The laid-back vibe is perfect for Radcliff's chilled out flow as he drops truth bomb after lyrical truth bomb throughout the track.
A veteran of the Chicago scene, Radcliff spits wisdom from the perspective of someone who has seen a war too many. He sees Chicago's hip-hop landscape as being "on its last legs" due to young up-and-comers being more focused on "fast money" as opposed to building a large catalog of quality music that in turn helps the cities' culture flourish. This claim coming from someone who has seen eras, there is no reason to doubt him.
Chicago's hip-hop scene has undergone an immense evolution in the past decade or so. Countless hit-and-run rappers have come and gone, while others have staked their claim on the island of longevity. Radcliff staked his own claim years ago, but this new single should serve as proof that he isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
