Hello! My name is Ryan Rosenberger, the owner of this blog. I have already made my first post, but since it is still early in the game, I wanted to publish my official mission statement so my readers will have a better idea as to what this blog will be about. First, however, a little bit about me. I am a college student. I am a junior at Columbia College Chicago studying Journalism with a concentration in Magazine Writing. I am 20 years old, and this is my third year living in Chicago. I love it! When I'm at in class or working, I can usually be found writing, attending music concerts, or simply hanging out with friends. Also, I am obsessed with Coffee and Dogs.
Through this blog, I will be publishing articles about the upcoming generation of artists who are shaping the artistic culture of this city. Although I will mainly be focusing on Musicians, Photographers & Writers, I will be covering artists from all artistic backgrounds. To make this happen, I will be conducting interviews with artists and publishing articles on a weekly basis based off of those interviews. My articles will focus on their background, the aesthetics portrayed in their work as well as any pieces that they would like to promote. I will be doing this in an interview style because I feel as though it is vital to hear the artists speak in their own words. I feel like more light needs to be shed on the artistic scene of Chicago because it is a scene of true diversity, yet nobody seems to be talking about it. I feel like most of the city's population is unaware of the creativity going on behind the scenes, and I want to do my part in bringing more awareness to that. Readers, there are a few things that I hope you take away from this blog. For one, I hope reading pieces about local artists inspires you to become more active in Chicago's artistic scene. Whether it is attending concerts put on by local musicians, or going to small, independent Art Galleries to view the works of local artists, Chicago's already thriving arts scene will only thrive more with growing support. Second, because I will be promoting artists, it is inevitable that other local artists will be reading these articles. My hope is that an artist will read a piece about another, and after viewing their work, will want to collaborate with that artist on a new project. My goal is to inspire new works between artists of all backgrounds, and do my part to help Chicago's artistic scene thrive even more. Last, but certainly not least, I want to show how unique our city is through the lens of the creatives who interpret the world around them on a daily basis. I want to interview artists who are going against the grain and doing something different. I want to show that Chicago's rich cultural heritage is complex beyond words. Simply publishing a few articles will not be able to do this city's artistic scene justice, but I have noticed that almost nobody is talking about it, and I have felt a pulling allure to shed light on it.
Readers, I sincerely hope this blog is something that will interest you. I will be publishing at least one article per week, so my presence on this website will be very consistent. My intention is for this platform to become a go-to place for local artists and creatives who want their work promoted. It is my most sincere of hopes that this page will grow as time goes on. I feel as though the more consistent of an audience I can attract, the more people will be aware of the artistic creativity taking place in this city as we speak. I leave you with this question: What types of art interests you the most, and what else would you like to see out of this blog? The ways that art can be promoted are truly limitless, and I am open to all feedback. I really hope you get something out of this, and that is all for now. Happy reading!
