College Mascots: The Awesome and The Strange

...or perhaps this post should be titled "College Mascots: The Strangely Awesome."

It is officially THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!!!

I live for the time of year when College Basketball reigns supreme.  The hardwood. The heart. The drama.

Have you guys actually been watching all of the conference tournament games?! It's been nothing short of awesome. Crazy buzzer beaters. Fantastic upsets. And 17 overtime games with an additional 3 going into double overtime! It really does a number on my blood pressure. And with this year's field extended to 68 there will hopefully be more opportunities for mid-major teams to make a name for themselves.

It's exciting and gets my adrenaline going into overdrive. And no doubt irritates the neighbors with my incessant screaming at the TV. [I should really apologize for that.]

So in celebration of Selection Sunday...a day of broken hearts and delightful surprises, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the NCAA's strange and awesome college mascots before we all run off and fill out our brackets.

Any other ones that should be on the list?!

I personally can't wait to see which schools are invited to the big dance. To me, March Madness is like Christmas! And the best gift a college basketball fanatic can receive this year [aside from your own team winning the big dance]? Knowing that EVERY. SINGLE. NCAA. TOURNAMENT. GAME. WILL BE BROADCAST LIVE!!! Thank you, CBS and Time-Warner. You have made me one happy little Jayhawk.

Now if only I could have my own version of a mancave set up like this...

Get ready for the awesomeness, sports fans!

  • Nice post!

Regarding Ibis and the Miami Hurricanes, they chose Ibis because "of its legendary bravery during hurricanes. The ibis is the last sign of wildlife to take shelter before a hurricane hits and the first to reappear once the storm has passed." [taken from wikipedia]. Hence their mascot is very fitting IMO.

  • Are Trinity Christian and Wichita State rivals? It seems like the Trinity Troll is taunting the Wichita State Shockers with the shocker.

Great catch, Jessica! And consider it updated.

Most mascots give off a molester/rapist vibe...but that's part of the fun on a college campus.
