As bloggers I think we all feel pretty safe about sharing our feelings and opinions in our blog posts everyday. I can honestly say that I have never worried about someone filing a lawsuit against me for any of the things I write about simply because of the free speech laws that I always thought protected us.
That being said...
An Oregon judge fined blogger Crystal Cox as a result of one particular post on her blog that was critical of The Obsidian Finance Group. The company sued Cox for $10 million after she wrote several posts about the investment firm. Although laws protecting journalists do exist, the judge made note that Cox is not, in fact, a journalist and was not protected under these laws.
This is very scary for bloggers who without thinking twice give their opinions and views freely on their blogs everyday.
