NBA the League of Point Guards

NBA the League of Point Guards

Every Era has its dominant position, in the 60s it was the league of the giants. In the 90s it was the league of the shooting guard and small forwards. And now? No doubt it is the league of the point guards. It feels like even an average point guard does not suffice for a championship caliber team. A lot the point guards are All-Star caliber guards and every year the draft is filled with talented point guards. Almost every night and every game you will see a great point guard battle. The three teams that do not have legit point guards are the three teams could have not only have been contenders but they could have probably won it all they had one. Lakers, Miami, and the Knicks all have a great talent. The Lakers have Kobe, Bynum, and Gasol but are struggling a bit because of the lack of point guard. In the triangle offense the Lakers did not really need Fisher to perform at an elite level for the Lakers to win multiple championships, but in Mike Brown's system things have changed for the Lakers. With no floor general controlling the tempo of the game, Kobe is forced to take horrific ball-hogging shots time to time. Miami made it to the Finals last year, great. If Miami had a legit point guard, they probably would have won the championship last year. Miami's biggest issue last year was failing at the end, not sure who to give the ball to. With a point guard, Miami's stars don't have to take the burden of controlling the tempo and could focus on scoring instead. The Knicks is another team that will filled with talent, but do not have somebody controlling the talent. Before the Carmelo trade the Knicks had a fantastic point guard in Raymond Felton. Felton was having a career year, he was controlling the tempo and helped Amare averag 25 points per game. The Knicks were a  winning team, their is also no coincidence that Knicks were still good after the Melo trade when they had Billups. Knicks started to struggle after Billups was let go and Knicks had no point guard running the show. In a competitive league of point guards, a team cant win a ring without a legit point guard in this leauge.
