This is a big year for me….I’m turning 65 in November. For someone who swore she’d never trust anyone over 40, this birthday is momentous. Based on my genes, health habits and all around orneriness, I’ve decided that I’ll live to be 102 and I’ll work until I’m 90. Given that, I’ve started to think about the ramifications of longevity. Here’s what I’ve come up with: I need to take much better care of myself!
The holistic approach to health has been around for years, but I didn’t really pay much attention to it until now. My research has led me back to the basics of health: mind, body, spirit. Focusing on these three areas and making small changes every week are manageable….it’s working because my doctor has reduced my meds and I’m feeling better than ever.
Here are a few small changes I’ve made that work:
- Drink a glass of water every half hour
- Walk 5K steps a day
- Eat breakfast
- Laugh more
This is the first of a three-part series of articles about life and career after 65.
