My little Brony

Back in February  I wrote about a documentary entitled Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony. It's still streaming on Netflix and you still should watch it because it's amazing.

Fast-forward to May when my own kid discovered the wonder that is My Little Pony. I too celebrated the Ponies when I was a wee babe (the delicious smell of their cutie marks still haunts my nostrils), but sweet mother of pearl is our nearly four-year-old obsessed.

IMG_3882[1]Side bar - if you are a kid who loves MLP, you aren't technically a Brony, right? Maybe a Broby? But older kids might take offense. A Bween then Breen? Educate me, fans!

Anywhoo, last week he received his first toy:  Meet Rainbow Dash - EK's new best friend.  He first saw her at Walgreen's and requested she be added to his birthday gift list (aka whatever scrap of paper I can find in my bag). Then Aunt Gretchen surprised him and life as we know it changed forever.

Protected by a trusty lunchbox, Rainbow "Danger" Dash accompanies us everywhere: Baby showers, grocery stores, school, the beach and more. This equine gets around, y'all.

And if that wasn't enough, I would guess we spend the majority of our time together discussing RDD in great detail.

A sampling of  quotes from the past week:

- "Mama, do you know my pony's middle name?" [leans in and whispers] "Danger."

- [SCREAMING in panic from his bedroom post wake-up] "Where's Rainbow Dash? Where are you? Why would she leave?"

- Can we watch My Little Pony? Can we watch My Little Pony? Can we watch My Little Pony? Can we watch My Little Pony? Can we watch My Little Pony? Can we watch My Little Pony? Can we watch My Little Pony? Can we watch My Little Pony? Can we watch My Little Pony? Can we watch My Little Pony? Can we watch My Little Pony? (also available via Netflix)

- [To strangers on the street] This is Rainbow Dash. She is very beautiful. SEE? SEE? [frantically waving it at them]

- "Rainbow Dash needs to put her shoes on too. They're invisible."

IMG_3879[1]- "I would like some yogurt please. Rainbow Dash would like raisins... in a cup."

- "Rainbow Dash DOES NOT like granola bars."

- "You didn't buckle Rainbow Dash into my seat. This is not a safe choice."

- "Rainbow Dash is freezing."

- "I am faster than Rainbow Dash."

IMG_3895[1]- "Rainbow Dash doesn't like to be tucked in with me because she gets too hot."

Aside from residing in a general state of anxiety over us losing the pony, I have to admit I am finding this phase of childhood pretty sweet. I mean, any stuffed animal who boasts the middle name, "danger" has to be fantastic, right?

Did/does your kid(s) obsess about a particular toy/character/etc? What was/is it? Did/does it drive you nuts or did you give in to the chaos?
