Four signs you need to get your kid out of the city

Over the past two weeks I have become acutely aware of the fact that my child has no idea about the world outside of the city. How so? Let me give you four separate quotes to illustrate just how sheltered he really is when it comes to all things nature.

1. During last week's drive from Chicago to Madison.

EK: "Mama, what's that?"

Me: "That's a sunset, buddy."

EK: "Can we drive into it?"

2. Driving to pick up Mr. Swirley from work.

EK: " Is that nature, mama?"

Me: "Nope, that's an off-ramp"

3.  Looking up at the sky at night.

EK: "Look mama, it's a star!"

Me: "Sorry buddy, that's a plane"

4.  Idle chit-chat in the car

Me: Where do apples come from, Ellis?

EK (with confidence): From the apple store.
