My friend Sandy and I were at Fleming's for a special tasting of menu items paired with cocktails and wines. According to our server and a couple of other Fleming's staff members, several of the Bears had dined at the restaurant the previous night, including Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall and Lovie Smith.
Cutler was said to have had the whitefish entree.
Judging from the outstanding seafood options we tasted, perhaps Cutler's food choice isn't that unusual after all. My personal favorite was the New Bedford Scallops. It's a small plate option, but the four jumbo, fresh-from-the sea-tasting scallops seared with a special blend of spices and topped with a Meyer lemon glaze, were fabulous-- and practically a meal in itself.
And while meat-eaters can choose from a medley of alternatives at Fleming's, I would highly recommend the Sliced Filet Mignon. It's served over slightly crunchy, earthy shitake mushroom risotto and topped with porcini mushroom butter with a hint of chili oil, the later of which gives the dish a little extra kick.
Our evening ended with luscious chocolate truffles exquisitely plated on a bed of bamboo leaves. Although the truffles are not on the menu, they're typically given free to guests if they come to the restaurant for a special occasion.
So here's a tip: Be sure and tell them about your special celebration when you make a reservation!
