I just picked up Ina Garten's book "Barefoot Contessa, How Easy Is That?"  In case you don't know Garten, she is a cookbook author and host of the popular TV show "Barefoot Contessa" on Food Network.

Garten, otherwise known as the Barefoot Contessa, uses the phrase "How easy is that?" a lot on the show and always makes the most scrumptious looking dishes, never scrimping on the fattening stuff.  Sure, she throws in healthier ingredients--fresh veggies and fruit and olive olive, but she's not afraid to pile on the butter, cream and sugar if that's what it takes to make a dish taste fabulous.

I like to work on my elliptical trainer while I watch her show. But that's me.

Just how easy is it for the Barefoot Contessa? Easier than I ever dreamed. Although she gives out some fairly simple dessert recipes in her book,  the Barefoot one also admits that she uses mixes.

Holy smokes,  B.C. uses mixes!? I thought this was really HUGE news until I realized she has her own line of baking mixes. They're pretty pricey too --most run between $10-12 each at Crate & Barrel.

Still, I'm dying to try her Outrageous Brownie mix. If they bake up half as good as  her scratch-recipe brownies, the mix will be worth it. And I do have to give her kudos for not specifically hawking her own brand--just alluding to it--in the book.  B.C. is too cool for that.
