He just can't wait to be king!

He just can't wait to be king!
William's first cast off 2 years ago

My tiny Iron Will sits in our bed watching Backyardigans.  His tiny legs are twisted into a pretzel and pulled up to his shoulders.  He is bendy and oh so beautiful.  A few hours later I find him on top of the dining room table eye balling the chandelier that hangs over my table.  “No you don’t little man!”  Giggles and he climbs down as quick as he climbed up.  A few hours later we are sitting at the table eating dinner.  I hear the sweetest little voice say “Mommy are you thinking what I am thinking? My likes my nipples.”
Our Little Daredevil

I of course smile and tell him I like his nipples too.  Fast forward one day, we are riding in the car to pick the kids up from school and Iron Will continues the discussion about his nipples.  He tells me he likes his nipples because he can touch them and they are prickly.  I know totally inappropriate, but when you have spent your life to date under 2 layers of plaster topped with 9 layers of fiberglass you don’t know you have these magical things.  I will talk nipples until he is blue.  He only has 7 more days with his new magical friends and he will rule this magical world until we lock them up for another 12 weeks.

Mary Tyler Mom so eloquently spoke of the bubble they lived in for the period of time while her beloved Donna was living the final months of her battle with cancer.  I think this is one of the posts that touched me the most.  I do say ONE of the posts that touched me the most because there were many.  When I was reading about the bubble I could relate on so many levels.  We also build our bubble/magical world in the 7 days every 12 weeks our Iron Will can become a pretzel man.

Our Magic Summer Sandbox
In our magical world I don’t want anyone to ask how his spine looks. I don’t want to look at it.  I don’t care what it looks like because today he is an acrobat. He can play outside all day long and we don’t care how hot it is.  He could swim if we wanted and take a bath everyday if he wasn’t terrified of water.  In those 7 days he is magic and not just mighty.  I can dream about a life beyond these casts, a life when he is older and has no limitations holding him back from his dreams.  When Iron Will asks if he will play for the Irish, I say ‘of course you will my darling.’  For 7 entire days he can do anything, be anything.   “I just can’t wait to be king” from the Lion King is our theme song for this special week.

[Simba:] I'm gonna be a mighty king
So enemies beware!
[Simba:] I'm gonna be the mane event
Like no king was before
I'm brushing up on looking down
I'm working on my ROAR
[Simba:] Oh, I just can't wait to be king!
[Simba:] No one saying do this
[Nala:] No one saying be there
[Simba:] No one saying stop that
[Simba and Nala:] No one saying see here
[Simba:] Free to run around all day
[Simba:] Free to do it all my way!
[Simba:] Kings don't need advice
From little hornbills for a start!
[Simba:] Oh, I just can't wait to be king!
Everybody look left
Everybody look right
Everywhere you look I'm
Standing in the spotlight!
[Chorus:] Let every creature go for broke and sing
Let's hear it in the herd and on the wing
It's gonna be King Simba's finest fling
[Simba & Chorus:] Oh I just can't wait to be king!
Oh I just can't wait to be king!
Oh I just can't waaaaaait ... to be king!

I deleted Zazu’s part because we don’t need negativity in our magical world.  We need cupcakes with lots of icing and we don’t care about the mess we will make.  Bring on the playground with the sand box and we will frolic and toss sand with reckless abandon.  We snuggle at nap time, skin to skin and caress a tiny back to sleep each night.  Iron Will is free, truly free to be dirty, messy, rowdy two year old who has only seen his nipples 9 times in the past two years.  Scoliosis don’t bug me till Monday and oh yeah Suck It!

Until next time, keep it curvy!
