Define Ratchet: A Mother Throws Her Baby On The Bus To Fight

I woke up this morning to an email asking me what the definition of "ratchet" was. It is an urban word to describe people that behave in an unfavorable way. The word is a new age version of the seasoned term "ghetto." The art of being ratchet stems from not knowing how to behave in public by being loud and disrespectful- just to name a few characteristics  Currently, reality tv shows such as "Big Rich Atlanta" and "The Gossip Game" are popularizing the term to a broader audience.

Last week a woman was filmed on a New York public transportation bus arguing with a former friend of the family. The woman who was accompanied by her infant daughter felt the need to express that she wasn't deserving of the disrespectful greeting she had received from the former family acquaintance  She highlighted that the woman yelling at her while she was with her child was rude. The argument became heated as they talked about each others mother stealing different men that were the object of another's affection.  A few onlookers voiced their lack of approval for the verbal brawl as the mother asked for someone to hold her baby so that she could fight the other young lady yelling at her. No one offered to relieve her of her motherly duty and she decided to delegate a female passenger to be her temporary care taker after being told by the other initiator of the confrontation that "no one cares about you and you don't care about your own baby."
An uneventful fight took place for a few seconds which cleared out the bus. Afterwards, the mother returned to the back of the bus to claim possession of her child after being defeated and embarrassed.  Such behavior can be classified as ratchet. Actions this sever and reckless motivates me to question the current generation of parents; are their priorities in order and why do we as onlookers feel the need to not stand up against such crime filled acts of ignorance? How can we make this a teachable moment to introduce all of our ratchet individuals to the salvation of mindful human behavior?
UPDATE:
Please know that the mother was inspired to fight because she felt that she was treated in an unfair manner in the presence of her child. The authorities were called to the scene afterwards, statements were taken and the mother is in police custody. The child is staying with relatives. There is a court case pending. The event took place on April 9th, 2013.. Just in time for the end of tax season  I hope they can cough up the bail. Was this argument really worth having her child taken from her by DCFS?
