Four, count 'em, four comic book superhero movies this summer, and three of them aren't sequels. Badass.
Three of them were good, one of them not quite. Poor Ryan Reynolds. He just can't top his performance from Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place.
4 - Green Lantern
I liked this more than most people did, but wasn't at all blown away like I thought I was going to be. I was imagining an "Iron Man" type of surprise, especially with Reynolds in the lead. But too much CGI. Also, don't get me wrong, I love pretty girls in my action movies, but please be able to act. Blake Lively, go home.
3 - Thor
Rock solid movie. I was expecting to like this the least, but maybe that's why I ended up liking it. The surprise of the summer. Good cast with Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tony Hopkins as his pops. Great action scenes. Thor kicks ass, especially in an early scene in the movie when we first see the hammer in action.
2 - X-Men: First Class
The best X-Men outside of X2. McAvoy and Fassbender are straight up ace as Xavier and Eric (Magneto), back when they were buds. Also, Kevin Bacon makes for the best villain of the summer. I love Kevin Bacon. What is my favorite Kevin Bacon movie? Oh, I don't know, I guess a tie, between all of them!
1 - Captain America
Rock, flag and eagle! Chris Evans just dominates as Captain America. Perfect lead in to the Avengers next summer. Great cast here. Tommy Lee Jones and Stan Tucci are solid as always, and Hugo Weaving as Red Skull... tits. Weaving owns every movie he's in. Badass.
All in all, solid summer, but soon to be passed up by next summer's Dark Knight Rises, Spider-Man reboot and the Avengers.
