Robert L. Mackey, former NFL linebacker, Founder of the Lydia W. Smith Foundation and J. Zemar Premium Brand, will be hosting an unforgettable night to raise awareness for Sickle-Cell Anemia benefiting SCDAI-Sickle Cell Disease Assoc. of Illinois. The Lydia W. Smith Foundation is named in honor of Robert Mackey’s mother, who has been living with the disease for 18 years. The foundation’s purpose is to provide financial relief to carriers and provide awareness.
Mackey speaks about the disease and its personal effect on him. "Sickle Cell is a serious disease that is near and dear to my heart. My mother was diagnosed 18 years ago and after being given 7 years to live is surviving with the disease today. The foundation is bringing awareness, education and also financial relief to families."
The "VIP's Supporting Sickle Cell" event will be filled with local and national celebrities, athletes, activists and survivors. Events will include; an exclusive rooftop cocktail dinner & auction with live music; both regional and national media will be in attendance.
The event will be held at the Conrad Hotel, 521 N. Rush St.
