MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND FUNDRAISING EVENTS TO HELP ILLINOIS MILITARY FAMILIES

Whatever your opinion on war, the consensus opinion is that the men and women serving in the military are heroes and serve our great country with dignity.  That's why the importance of the Illinois Patriot Education Fund (IPEF) and its efforts can not go unnoticed.

IPEF is a registered 501(c)(3) that supplements educational needs beyond benefits provided by the Post-9/11 GI Bill including school supplies and materials, professional tutoring programs, funding to help offset charter school costs, and scholarships.

“The service men and women from our great state dedicate their time and energy to our country,” says Mark Slaby, founder of the IPEF. “It is important for them and their families to have every educational opportunity. I am so proud the IPEF can help further their educational needs.”

The IPEF is holding its third annual golf outing, Medinah Patriot Day, on Tuesday, May 29 at Medinah Country Club. The IPEF provides educational financial assistance to support Illinois military service families. To celebrate, the IPEF is holding a special VIP Kickoff Party tonight 6:00 p.m. at The Joynt, 650 N. Dearborn St., Chicago.

“We have helped numerous families in our area, but the truth is we haven’t helped enough,” adds Slaby. “We are grateful to our corporate partners, AON, Dell, Delta Dental and Touredge, and to the individual donors who have contributed to our education efforts.”

Four-Star General Raymond T. Odierno, 38th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, will speak at the golf outing May 29th and award scholarships to the Illinois military families.

The Thursday night kickoff event, sponsored in part by Perillo Rolls-Royce and The Joynt, will be filled with local celebrities and supporters of the IPEF including Blackhawks National Anthem singer Jim Cornelison, Chicago Bears Otis Wilson, Steve “Mongo” McMichael and James “Big Cat” Williams, 2012 Miss Illinois Runner-up; Jennifer Christenson, former Cleveland Brown Michael Wilson, WIND-AM’s Amy Jacobson, WCIU’s Aly Bockler and more.  Many of these same celebrities will also be golfing May 29th.
