"The Local Tourist" founder Theresa
Carter and Jim Goodrich of "With A Voice Like This" as they begin their
fifteen-day exploration of historic Route 66. They'll be documenting the
history and adventures of America's Main Street, working to raise money for
pediatric cancer research (route66.thelocaltourist.com/help-us-help-kids). Ms. Carter is an Emmy Winner and the founder of
thelocaltourist.com and Mr. Goodrich is a musician and podcaster.
Local Tourist will stop at thirteen cities along
the trip from Chicago to Santa Monica and back. They will host "meet and greets" with local
businesses and restaurants, to capture the character of each town.
"The Local Tourist is a trusted resource for Chicago happenings and
we're enthusiastic about bringing this expertise to other cities across the
country, and we're really embracing new media in doing so," said Carter. "Route 66 captures the imagination like no
other road, and rather than reading a book about America's Main Street, new
media allows people to feel as though they're traveling with us on this tour."
Local Tourist will document each step of the way
with audio, video, prose and photos using blog posts, podcasts, Facebook,
Twitter, Foursquare and YouTube to tell the stories of the road, the towns, and
the people it's touched.
The duo will cruise in a brand new
Chevy Camaro convertible (affectionately named "Charlie"), courtesy of GM, and stop at the following cities: St.
Louis, MO; Baxter Springs, KS; Tulsa, OK; Amarillo, TX; Albuquerque, NM;
Kingman, AZ; Santa Monica, CA; Flagstaff, AZ; Santa Fe, NM; Oklahoma City, OK;
Joplin, MO; Springfield, IL and -finally- return to Chicago.
Once expenses are met, funds raised
along the expedition will be donated to Endure
to Cure charity dedicated to pediatric cancer research, treatment and care.
