Whether you are new in town or a native, if
you want to learn about all the great non profit organizations, social
enterprises and causes out there, you're probably like me. You have searched your
favorite events resource (including chicagonow.com) and
have gone to event after event, galas, fundraisers, etc. If only there were
one place where you could access various charities and talk to their volunteers, get information about how you can volunteer, donate, or host and sponsor fundraisers.
This Friday, "Socially Aware: A Non Profit Fair wil bring together nearly 20 nonprofits Friday, April 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hotel Sax, 333 North Dearborn, in the posh 4th floor conference center. "
We chose a broad range of local and national charities that have some very moving stories. For instance, Patricia Tallungan founder of the
Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation, lost her 10-year-old son, Nicolas, after a
four-year battle with neuroblastoma. CNCF supports and provides information to families with
children suffering from this still relatively unknown disease.
Dianna Long and
her Urban Art Retreat organization, U.A.R., provides artists and non-artists a forum for expression without regard to differences. U.A.R. enables people to examine how those differences impact our
community and our ability to live as one.
Meet the people who make up CASA (Court Appointed
Special Advocates) who teach people how to stand up
for abused and neglected children in an overwhelmed and extremely
under-resourced foster care system. Without a helping hand from CASA of
Cook County Advocates, these children might fall through the cracks and
never be given an opportunity to find a place to call home.
"Socially Aware" sponsor Conjure
(the Cognac made famous by hip hop superstar Ludacris) will be
providing free cocktails during the first hour of the event. Appetizers and Fathom DJ will be
spinning live, and one lucky guest will walk away with roundtrip air
and hotel accommodations to Las Vegas for two.
The non profits scheduled to appear include: Gilda's Club,
Imerman Angels, Jimmy Insulin, South Central Community Services,
LUNGevity, Urban Art Retreat, Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer
Foundation, Friends United For Juvenile Diabetes, ASAP (Azumah Student
Assistance Program), Big Love Little Hearts, PAVE (Promoting Awareness
Victim Empowerment), CASA, CAWC (Connections For Abused Women and Their
Children), Urban Gateways, The Aparecio Foundation, City Of Hope, Legal
Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, Advocates For Adolescent
Mothers, Girls In The Game.
"Socially Aware" represents my personal commitment to charitable causes after losing friends to breast cancer, diabetes and lupus.
Sponsors include 220 Communications, Conjure,
Charity Chat Online, Loquacious Catering and Authenticity The Game.
Advance tickets for "Socially Aware" are $30, which includes drinks, food and raffle tickets. Tickets the day of the event are $40.
