This Weekend: Food, Wine,Art, Comedy Close Out the Summer

If I didn't own a calendar, I would be able to tell it was the end of the Summer by a few telltale signs: 1) The chill in the air during the evenings 2) The wicked Sinus Infection that I get every time the seasons change (no ugly details will be documented in this blog, I promise) 3) The number of events crammed into the last weekend of September. There are so many great events happening between Friday and Sunday I would need to write a book to detail them all. Instead, I'll give you the cliff notes version of some of my top choices for the weekend.

This Friday a hidden jewel on Chicago's west side, Murphy Hill Gallery kicks off its "Caffeine IV" exhibition.  Featuring the art of the Artists' Breakfast Group.  The gallery has built quite a reputation in the past 4 years as a growing influence on the Chicago Art Scene hosting both local and international artists.

The 20,000 square foot facility is located on the 3rd Floor of the Historic Sears Roebuck Building at 3333 West Arthington. The exhibition runs until October 30th. For more information visit:www.murphyhillgallery.com

Saturday, its all about the food and the wine, as the Illinois Restaurant Association will host the 3rd annual Chicago Gourmet Food and Wine Festival.  A highlight of the event will be cooking demonstrations and book signings by celebrity chefs Rick Bayless, Tony Mantuano and Marcus Samuelsson along with the best wine spirits and beer with guided tastings.  An event not to be missed.  www.chicagogourmet.org

Saturday evening, Care, Cure and Comedy is on deck at the fundraiser for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. The event will be held at the House of Blues from 6-9 PM. Comedy will be provided by Susie Essman (Curb Your Enthusiasm). The foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy. I vote we declare the last weekend in Saturday a 3 day weekend..just to allow an extra recovery day from all the events going on. Who's with me??
