Today, of course, I'm reminded of this entry from the Archives ~
I was actually asleep when the news broke.
So, I had no idea until, for some reason, I suddenly woke up at 2:30AM and, like a nicotine addict would reach for a pack of cigarettes with their eyes barely opened, I reached for my phone. And, I saw a message from our ChicagoNow Community Manager Jimmy Greenfield with the subject "ChicagoNow/Osama bin Laden's death."
I sat up and I didn't fall back to sleep until 5:30.
And, of all the Tweets and Facebook updates and everything I could possibly read, my friend and former ChicagoNow blogger Joe O'Sullivan's Facebook status gave me pause and gave me chills.
"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." George Orwell
Today, I am grateful ~
1/ for rough men
2/ and women
3/ who do what they do while I sleep peaceably in my bed ...
or lay there awake but comfortable while glued to my phone like your average phone-addicted spoiled American.
Thank you to all of our servicemen and women and police officers and firefighters.
G0d Bless the real heroes and G0d Bless America!
