One reason to stop texting, emailing, tweeting and Facebooking ...

My eyes are glued to my phone. My fingers are pecking away. I'm using my peripheral vision to walk around that person and that person.  Excuse me! I have somewhere to be! I have messages to send!

All the while, Grammy-award winning violinist Joshua Bell could be making beautiful music in the train station ... a free concert that others would pay a lot of money to see ... as I rush by.

It could happen.  It did happen ... to multi-tasking commuters just like you and me in Washington, DC.

Check out this experiment conducted by the Washington Post in 2007 (and for some reason popping up a lot on Facebook lately).

A nice reminder to
and Listen.

Ok, I have to be honest - I've never heard of Joshua Bell.  But, Vanilla Ice? I'd recognize him ... and probably stop mid-Tweet.

  • So his name didn't ring a bell? Tp match the tempo of the commuters, he should have played "Flight of the Bumblebee" by Rimsky-Korsakov.

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

LOL! Actuallyyyyy his name did ring a bell :) but my tastes don't lean toward the classical. I have to google Flight of the Bumblebee now (while walking and talking of course).
I'm actually obsessed with the Supremes! Ha! If Diana Ross were in the train station, I wouldn't just stop walking and typing, I'd curtsy.

  • Jen, I have friends who gave up their social media for Lent. Ha!

  • In reply to STS Chicago:

Hiiiii!!! So happy to see you pop up!! I miss you!!
    OMG talk about a sacrifice!!

  • Hahahahhahahahah.... I've noticed a few instances of commuters simply looking up, confused, when beautiful music happens to be coming out of a normal street musician. The Violent Femmes began on the streets (that's why he sings so loud). If you're healthy enough to be out and about, look around you! :-)

  • I agree! I say stop and blog the roses :) but it's easy to forget, I know :)
I just read the wiki bio of Violent Femmes. Love it!
