When I was asked to review this book, I had the following questions:
1. I'm not a mom, so will I find this interesting?
2. I'm not going through menopause, I only act that way, so will I find this interesting?
3. Elizabeth Loan knows about menopause?! What?? She looks my age. Very interesting.
Answers/Commentary
1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Find out Elizabeth Loan's moisturizing routine. Copy same.
Memoirs of a Mom on the Edge, Part One: Martinis & Menopause is actually a collection of Loan's blog entries (as many of you know, I'm a huge fan of such a format. Scroll up. Click on 'The Book' after reading this entry. Forgive me for the shameless plug). And, among the amazing things I learned about Loan:
~ she has 5 kids - she tells the truth about it - the good, the bad and the ugly (like what they do with their snot)
~ one her boys is autistic - she tells the truth about that too
~ she is still married - yup, the truth about it
~ one of her ovaries basically exploded!
~ her parents were teachers and they packed it all up one year and toured Europe! ... kids in tow!
~ there is one very unfortunate place in particular on the body to get a tattoo ... You'll have to read the book. It's not what you're thinking but it's hilarious.
The only downside? I want to know more! More about her childhood, her parents, her sister who pooped her pants in the car, her husband, her kids. I'll have to stay tuned for the next parts.
But, as for Part 1, Loan's humor + her storytelling ability = A very entertained non-mom non-menopausal reader

And, because this is Roses, today I am grateful ~
1/ for the supportive writing community that exists on the interwebs from Twitter to Facebook to Goodreads and back
2/ and all the lovely people I've 'met' in between
3/ including, of course, Elizabeth Loan aka E.B. Loan aka Mom of five? ... Where's my retinol?
