It's Wear Star Wars, Share Star Wars Day!

I'm wearing my hair in a bun today.  Not like Princess Leia.  Like Anne Shirley - from Anne of Green Gables.

Even though today is Wear Star Wars, Share Star Wars Day, it's all about Geek Pride!!  And if my love of all things Anne and my desire to visit to Prince Edward Island makes me a geek, so be it. I'm in excellent company.

So, here is my entry from last year on the first annual day of celebrating the geek within and, may the force be with all of you!

~~~~~~~
Do you know what today is?  If not, then you probably haven't heard about Katie.  Katie is the daughter of fellow ChicagoNow blogger Carrie Goldman, who writes Portrait of an Adoption.  In one of Carrie's recent posts, she discussed how Katie, who is in first grade, was being bullied at school for having a Star Wars water bottle.
Apparently, one day, Katie tried to convince her mom that she should take her pink water bottle to school instead of her Star Wars one and when Carrie pressed her on why, Katie burst into tears and revealed that some of the boys at lunch were making fun of her for being a girl who likes Star Wars.
And that was the blog post that launched a thousand geeks.  Make that thousands upon thousands of proud geeks flocking to ChicagoNow to show their support for Katie.  As a result, Carrie has been on CNN and MSNBC. Twitter has a hashtag #MayTheForceBeWithKatie. And, today? Today has been named "Support Star Wars and Geek Pride for Katie" Day!
So, if you have any Star Wars paraphernalia, today is the day to flaunt it!
I'm not fortunate enough to own any Star Wars gear so I have taken a wedding photo of myself (below) and photoshopped my bouquet into a Star Wars water bottle in honor of Katie.
And, today, I am grateful for the geeky things I love ~
1/ Anne of Green Gables
2/ and the sequel Anne of Avonlea
3/ and all 7 Harry Potter books.
Go ahead and call me a geek. I don't mind because ...
Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the earth.
GO, KATIE!
