Love, Loss and What I Wore - Now in Chicago at the Broadway Playhouse

I saw it last night - opening night - and I don't remember a thing.

As I was exiting my 4th row seat - after 1 hour 45 minutes, no intermission - WHACK!  Note to the lawyers for the company that manages the property at Broadway Playhouse: You might want to do something about that low wall before some 5'3" klutz walks directly into it and ends up with a quarter sized bump above her eyebrow.

So, yeah, I was wearing my True Religion jeans and black long sleeved t-shirt from Lucky ... oh! oh! It's coming back to me! Yes, there were 5 ladies on stage. No, there were 4.  No, there were 5!  Yes! And they told stories about moments from their life and ... what they wore.

They told stories about ex-boyfriends and ex-husbands, the loss of family members, the loss of children, the loss of innocence, their love/hate relationship with their bodies, their closets, their clothes.  Yeah, I remember now.  I really liked it!

Now, I want to read the book by Ilene Beckerman - she started doodling and sketching the things she wore throughout her life (her Brownie uniform, her first wedding dress, her second wedding dress, a maternity dress) and then started writing the story of her life along side the sketches with the hope of giving her children a better sense of who she is and to remember her after she's gone.  She never had any intention of publishing it.  She never thought anyone else would want to read it.  She was wrong.

Love, Loss and What I Wore is a tribute to life as a woman - there are moments in your life you'll never forget, you can remember exactly how you felt, exactly who was there and, of course, exactly what you were wearing.

Go see it.  Beware of the wall on the way out.

And, maybe it's the bump on my head, but it got me thinking.  Stop and Blog the Roses would be perfect as a play!! Call me Ephron girls. And move over, Vagina Monologues!

~~~
Today, I am grateful ~
1/ That I didn't hit the wall head first because that would have been even uglier
2/ That it didn't happen a week or so before my wedding (yes, our wedding may have been a year ago but once a Bridezilla, always Ferny)
3/ for Ilene Beckerman, Nora and Delia Ephron and the 5 lovely actors on stage last night - Bravo!
Thank you for reading Stop and Blog the Roses.  Follow me on Twitter @FernRonay.
