Regarding Marriage Advice ... Don't listen to any of it
wed pic 1.jpg

Once upon a time, long before I met H, someone who had been married for a few years told me that marriage was 'the hardest relationship' she'd ever been in.

I thought that was the most depressing thing I'd ever heard.

I know it's work but shouldn't it be the easiest?

On this day, one year ago, H and I got married and I'm pleased to report that  ~

1/ I'm old enough to know that every relationship is different

2/ and every marriage is different

3/ and I feel lucky to be in one of the easy ones.  I think it has something to do with marrying your best friend ... but who am I to give advice.  See 1/ and 2/.

  • I've found that marriage isn't that hard.

Having kids IS that hard. The two are often confused. When I was married very little in my life changed, but when my wife and I had children everything changed.

Major changes to your life are never easy, and the stress of adding a massive workload to both you and your spouse and figuring out how it gets split fairly is a very difficult thing that most couples probably struggle with.

That said, as you noted, all relationships are unique, so your mileage may vary.

    Thanks so much, Doug!
It's funny you mention that because I've also been dealing with this - I call it the baby bullies :)

Amen, Doug. After I had kids, I realized how selfish I really was! My husband and I rarely argued until our little bundle of joy arrived...
