When I worked next to Ground Zero

My first job after college was in the World Financial Center, next to the World Trade Center.  It was the late 90's so there was no Ground Zero.  It was just the World Trade Center.

I left that job in 1999 to go to law school.  The next time I returned, it was 2006.

I could no longer take the subway to the World Trade Center and walk across to the World Financial Center like I used to because there was no World Trade Center anymore.

And, ironically, the streets of that neighborhood were so much brighter than I ever remembered.  Without the shadow of the towers, it's very sunny down there - almost too sunny.

Today, I am grateful ~

1/ That I didn't personally know anyone who died on September 11, 2001. Today, my prayers are for those who did.
2/ For firemen and police officers and anyone who risks their life for someone else.
3/ That I was born in this country - The Land of the Free

Am I a spoiled American?  Yup.  And so are you.  Because...

when you have freedom, you have everything.
