Here are some highlights from the City’s second annual festival for dogs, which I had the pleasure to emcee.
I was there when Chicago City Clerk Miquel Del Valle said last year, “Let’s have a festival for dogs!” And that’s how Dog Day on the Green came about. The event is Sunday, August 29, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Montrose Harbor, in Lincoln Park. And Dog Day on the Green is FREE! Among... Read more »
What a discussion: Flea and heartworm control, getting dogs’ coats in good shape and getting dogs into physical condition for the summer, even what to do if there’s a pet emergency. Here’s a one-hour On Demand conversation with Chicago’s own Dr. Sheldon Rubin. America doesn’t have James Herriot, but we do have Dr. Rubin. There’s... Read more »
In 1975 Aliotta, Haynes and Jeremiah sang about Lake Shore Drive. “Ain’t no road just like it…heading into town….” Today, Skip Haynes is singing for dogs. On my AM-890 WLS Radio show, Steve Dale’s Pet World, this past Saturday, he told said he’s especially an ugly dog fan.
Linda Case is conducting some fascinating research. You might called them ‘case studies;’ she’s polling average dog owners on the Internet, asking all sorts of questions. It’s easy to partake, and it’s free, just check out the Dog Talk Project. Linda Case and friends Linda Case appeared on on my WLS 890 AM on Demand... Read more »
I’ve been asked many times who my favorite people are to interview. One day, I’ll figure out that answer, but I can tell you certified applied animal behaviorist Patricia McConnell is totally in the top-10. I love her books, I love the way she puts things. I’m a fan. And if you haven’t read “For... Read more »

Flea and Tick Products; Grief after Loss; Our Fascination with Animals; and Lady Gaga for Dogs on Steve Dale's Pet World on WLS
I think this may actually be worth getting up for. Steve Dale’s Pet World, on AM 890-WLS (or www.wlsam.com) Saturday (March 27), about 9 p.m (post basketball), a bevvy of guests: Lots of questions from you about the EPA expressing concerns about fea and tick products. Should we use these products? Is there a safety... Read more »
When the wording of the “compromise” began all Pit Bulls will continue to be deemed dangerous, I knew this wasn’t a compromise at all. As it stood previously Elgin, IL public officials wanted to restrict Pit Bulls – for starters – by instantly deeming each one dangerous (without temperament testing) and mandating $500,000 of insurance.... Officials in Elgin say they’re not planning to ban Pit Bulls. I beg to differ, as does the dude hosting videos at Elgin2030.com. if the ordinance in Elgin passes, all Pit Bulls (or dogs they call Pit Bulls) will instantly be deemed dangerous – just because they are called Pit Bulls – no other reason.... This is my chronicle of the trials and triumphs of working and mothering simultaneously.
One gals (tongue in cheek) look at making it as an adult in the 21st century.
I'm a grateful drunk who doesn't drink, a smoker who doesn't smoke and a brand new mom of boy/girl twins from IVF. I'm grateful for the good the bad and the ugly. It's great to be alive!
