Tree House Humane Society recently held a swanky flapper-style fundraiser – and you cold only enter the Room 13 Speakeasy (3222 N. Sheffield at the Old Chicago Inn) with a secret password. Oooops – it was brown tabby; I gave it away. Dave DeFuniak, executive director at Tree House offered a sneak preview of what... Read more »

Bark in the Park for Anti Cruelty Society

I've helped to emcee this event for most of those 19 years....to my left Bart Shore of WBBM-radio and Roz Varon of WLS -TV have been at Bark in the Park of all those 19 years, and to the far right in the photo - he oughta look familiar, Hosea Sanders of WLS-TV, he's been a regular for about 10 years.

Thousands of dogs turn out for this event, and a who’s who from the Chicago animal world as well. If you missed it – you missed tons of fun, here... Read more »

Barking at Dog Writer's Association Dinner

For about 20 years the Dog Writer's Association of America Banquet has been held the night before the Westminster Dog Show at the Affinia Hotel, across from the Madison Square Garden. This is an awards banquet to celebrate achievements of those who write and broadcast about dogs. There are several 'special' awards, as dozens of Maxwell Medallions presented. Colleagues judge other colleagues. I've been honored about a few dozen of these Maxwell's - but this night far more was to come.
Here are some images from the Annual Dog Writer’s Association of America Awards Banquet. Here are details of the DWAA Hall of Fame.

Lights of Love feels like family, we are all there for the same purpose...It's not sad, it's sweet and heartfelt. I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors, with a cat's best friend, Dr. Colleen Currigan, president of the Tree House Board of Directors.
Tree House Humane Society’s Lights of Love event was December 11, at the shelter on Carmen at Broadway in Uptown. The event is now a tradition in the community. It’s a warm and wonderful get together to honor loved ones we’ve all lost, and celebrating hopeful adoptions of the cats at Tree House, as well... Read more »

Dr. Sheldon Rubin Honored by the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association

Dr. Rubin Retires! It really is a headline. Chicago will never be the same – our pets won’t  anyway…You may know him as Oprah’s one-time veterinarian; a frequent guest on Wally Phillips’ (back in the day) or the veterinarian to be a guest most often on my shows; or as president of the American Heartworm...
