Pit Bulls, Are they Good Dogs, Really?

Pit Bulls are indeed misunderstood. Ken Foster is the author of  ”I’m a Good Dog: Pit Bulls, America’s Most Beautiful (and Misunderstood) Pet.” Sadly, because of these ‘misunderstandings’ thousands of Pit Bull-looking dogs are needlessly euthanized annually. For starters, what is a Pit Bull? Because a dog resembles a certain ‘type’ many might describe as... Read more »

Are Friendly Skies Not So Canine Friendly?

Are Friendly Skies Not So Canine Friendly?
Is United Airlines profiling dog breeds? If so, I’m a logical person to ask for help. I’ve stood up against local governments banning specific breeds (usually municipalities seeking to ban any dog looking like a Pit Bull). Breed bans have never demonstrated success at lowering the number of dog bites. Recently, over a 24-hour period,... Read more »

Service Dog Is Banished from Town; The Dog Is A Pit Bull
By Steve Dale “I didn’t know there was a Pit Bull ban,” says Jim Sak, who moved from Chicago to Aurelia, IA in November. Only days after moving to town a meter reader reported Sak and his wife Peggy Leifer to city officials because, to him, the new dog in town resembles a Pit Bull.... Read more »

Service Dog In 'Jail' Because He's Part Pit Bull
Proof that no good deed goes unpunished, being a Chicago police officer for 32 years – that’s a good deed, far starters. I don’t care what my critics say, and I have no data to support this…While all dogs are loyal, Pit Bull-type dogs somehow excel in that department. I am aware of the negative press….but few are aware of the positive press – decades and decades of it, before the dogs were exploited. Here’s just one... Read more »

They are smart and are devoted to their families. Early socialization is important for this up to 160 lbs dog that can be 28 inches tall.
It seems there isn’t much made in the USA anymore, but these dogs breeds were – developed right here in America!

Gov. Quinn Puts His Paw Down, A Dogfighting Law With Real Bite

I participated in a historic Illinois bill signing (HB 5790) – increasing the felony penalty for dogfighting near schools, parks, day cares and playgrounds. When Gov. Pat Quinn signed the measure (July 17, ’10), Illinois became the first state in the union to throw one more penalty at dogfighters, translating to more time in jail.... Read more »

Pet Writer Amy Shojai's New Year's Greeting

My pet writing and broadcasting colleague Amy Shojai’s New Year’s greeting…I think it’s sweet/funny, one reason why I’m posting. Also, this summer, her next book, “The American Pit Bull Terrier” is scheduled for release (TFH Publishing). In my opinion, Pit Bulls and their reputation has definitely been a victim of dogfighting over this past decade... Read more »
