Cat Fancy Gets Fancy at the Algonquin

Cat Fancy Gets Fancy at the Algonquin

Cat Fancy magazine, the world’s leading cat publication, is proud to sponsor the annual Matilda the Algonquin Cat birthday celebration and fundraiser.

This year’s theme is a salute to Broadway with Matilda herself hosting the ceremonies, which take place at the historic Algonquin Hotel  (59 W. 44th St., New York) on Saturday, August 2,  3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Proceeds  will go to benefit the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, a nonprofit organization committed to seeing NYC transformed into a no-kill community.

“It means so much to us at Cat Fancy to be part of Matilda’s birthday bash and fundraiser,” says Susan Logan, editor of Cat Fancy, and noted feline advocate.  “Not only does it give us a chance to celebrate these remarkable cats, but it allows us to raise awareness and much-needed funds for homeless cats and dogs. Money raised at events such as this makes a difference in getting us closer to a day when every pet has a loving home and kill-shelters are a thing of the past.”

Clearly there's no business like cat business, and the Broadway-themed event will include cat adoptions, a feline fashion show with hot lookers, celebrity cats and raffles.

Cat adoptions will be open to the public, the goal is to adopt far more cats that the number of years the Broadway show "Cats!" ran (18 years in human years).

Pet fashion designer Ada Nieves is designing and producing the fashion show.

Special guests include:

Tara the Hero Cat: When 4-year-old Jeremy Triantafilo was attacked by a neighbor’s dog, the family’s rescued tabby Tara, fearlessly chased the canine off the property and away from her young human companion. Captured by home-surveillance cameras, the video garnered more than 22 million hits on YouTube. Showing little regard for her own safety, the feline became known overnight as Tara the Hero Cat. Tara will be featured in the October 2014 issue of Cat Fancy with a rare interview and exclusive photos.

Vito Vincent: When Vito Vincent was just 7 months old his guardians gave him up to a shelter in Brooklyn, NY. After moving from various rescue and adoption centers, Vito was adopted and the rest, as they say, is history. Since moving with his adopted family to SoHo, NY, Vito Vincent’s calm personality and easy-to-train attributes has made him a star on both small screen and stage. Some of Vito Vincent’s roles include 30 Rock and Colbert Nation. He’s currently starring on Broadway in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
