Chicago Loves Pits; Remember Lassie; Bark-in-the-Park on Steve Dale's Pet World
Bryan Bickell of the Chicago Blackhawks talks about his support of dogs we call pit bulls, among the guests on Steve Dale's Pet World

Bryan Bickell of Chicago Blackhawks is joined by Amanda Caskenette of Chicago Loves Pits on Steve Dale's Pet World on WGN Radio, Saturday April 20, 1:05 .p.m. CDT  to talk about their fundraiser. Pints for Pits at Red Ivy (3525 N. Clark Street, near Addison). Pints for Pits is April 27, 7 to 10 p.m. I will host the event, and raffle items include a signed Bickell Blackhawk jersey, a Blackhawk stick and more. This organization is all about saving dogs - those that need saving the most, dogs called pit bulls.

I will also make a special announcement having to do with the Chicago Blackhawks.

From the Anti Cruelty Society, Nadine Wamsley hangs out to Bark about a GREAT fitness and dog-friendly, dog-fun event, called Bark in the Park. This 19th annual 5K walk for dogs or run for people is May 4, at Montrose Harbor in Lincoln Park. The run begins at 9 and the walk at 9:15.

Of the many, many vendors in the park - you'll find free samples for best friends, you lean learn more about pheromone products (Feliway and Adaptil) to help anxious pets,  and much, much more.... so after the walk, folks do hang out....Also, hosts include myself and Bart Shore of WBBM-AM and Roz Varon and Hosea Sanders of WLS-TV news.

As always before my show (at 1:05 p.m.), I'm on the radio with Bill Moller at 11:30 a.m. I take phone calls on pet behavior questions - but will also be interviewing Jon Provost....You DO remember him, the guy who Lassie rescued time and again: the original Timmy.  Provost will appear at the Museum of Broadcast Communications (360 N. State Street) noon on April 27, in a program - which I am planned to host - called "Remembering Lassie." Of course, we all do!  It will be a wonderfully fun event, if he can make it there without falling into a well.

I loved your show. It really hit home with me. I lost my pit/american bulldog Nala alittle over a year ago. When she died, I decided that I wanted to do something in her honor (she was the best dog ever) , that would help improve the lives of bully dogs and all dogs. I did research and finally settled on Safe Humane Chicago. I send a donation to them weekly in her honor. I choose them because they work in the communities in Chicago, teaching kids and adults how to train and properly care for dogs. They also have dog embassodors

Sorry , they also have dog ambassadors who help show proper treatment of dogs. I also love their court case dogs, where they go in and work with dogs of individuals being prosecuted. Often these are bully breeds and yes pits. They work with the dogs and when they are able they try to find rescues who then adopt them out. It is a great Chicago organization I wish they would move out to the northwest suburbs so that I could volunteer with them. I could not have found a better organization to honor my Nala. I love pits. I finally found an organization that is helping the breed and all dogs. .
