Spirit Returns Home Again, Chalk Another Up for Microchipping

Spirit Returns Home Again, Chalk Another Up for Microchipping
This is Shakira (and for a brief time Kathy)

I suppose two lessons to be learned concerning lost or stolen pets:

1) Microchip (and be sure to register or if the pet is found no one will know who you are)

2) Never give up!

A Siberian Husky will be reunited with family on October 6, after nearly five years away!

Shakira (who was briefly called Kathy) at the Free Spirit Siberian Rescue in Harvard, IL is expected to be reunited with her owner, Heather Jackson of Chatsworth, GA according the McHenry Country Sheriff's office.

The dog arrived Aug. 11 at Free Spirit from a shelter in Murray County, GA., after the rescue organization volunteered to take it so the husky would not be euthanized.

Free Spirit personnel realized the dog had a microchip, and HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service was able to identify Jackson and contact her Wednesday (October 3), according to police.

Jackson told McHenry County Sheriff’s police the dog had been lost or stolen from Georgia in December 2007! After Jackson forwarded the necessary paperwork, sheriff’s police had the dog brought to McHenry County Animal Control.

The reunion is expected to take place Saturday morning at McHenry Animal Control, according to a Chicago Tribune story.

  • I used to work at a vet clinic, and I couldn't believe how many pet owners didn't have their pets chipped! http://www.psychicratings.org
