LISTEN Here to my conversation wilh Bill Leff of WGN Radio from the top of a volcano in Rwanda, Africa (from September 13). We had just completed the first of two tracks to see mountain gorillas in Rwanda, and how one adolescent male was smitten with my wife, Robin.
Cell phones might be iffy talking to a colleague across the street, but this connection was from the other side of the world, as we spoke as were on our way to see the very rare golden monkeys at an elevation of about 7,500 feet.
This might be a first time in the long history of America's most prestigious radio station that a live report has ever come from Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.
Also joining in the conversation, president of Terra Incognita Ecotours, naturalist Jed Caddick. He talks about the generally peaceful lives of gorillas (though there is one exception that he explains), and what it's like to meet them in their homes on their terms.
