The Fountain of Canine Youth: Coconut Oil for Dogs

The Fountain of Canine Youth: Coconut Oil for Dogs
Is the very pretty Victoria Schade really 107 years old, and this dog truly 52? If so, I am running out to buy some of that coconut oil.

I've written many introductions and forewords to pet books over the years. One of my favorite books to be in is "Bonding with Your Dog," by Victoria Schade. In her, I saw the passion and presence of a star. What she says in this book from 2009 remains incredibly important today. After all it IS all about that bond. When the human/animal bond fractures, the pet may land in a shelter.

I don't typically cross-blog like this - but here's why I've done it this time. I received a note (from via Twitter - where my handle incidentally is Steve Dale Pets) asking me what I think of Victoria's recent blog post for Petside.com about the myriad of presumed healthful affects of coconut oil for dogs. I don't have a clue to be honest. I read Victoria's blog on coconut oil. It's interesting. If true, odds are the same healthful affects are true for people.

She says dogs love coconut oil. I personally hate the taste - I even avoid coconut ice-cream.

Well, you can check out Victoria's blog at Petside.com for yourself....I have no time to add anything further - I have to run out to Whole Foods to purchase some coconut oil.

  • I could be wrong but I think that coconut oil is high in cholesterol but I don't know how that would affect dogs. I'm like you though, Steve, I hate coconuts. When I was a kid Ioved cracking open those coconuts, drinking the "milk" and scraping out the meat but I hate it now.

Um, I guess you think that coconuts are animals? Because cholesterol can only be found in animal products.

  • Whole Foods has the good stuff (unrefined, minimally processed coconut oil). And if you don't like eating it or can't stand the taste, remember it's great as a hair conditioner/skin conditioner (people or dogs). I occasionally give my dogs a teaspoon or two of coconut oil - they love it!

i love Coconut Oil! I use a brand named Memory Oil. Thats my favorite brand mainly because it is cheap for a 14 oz. bottle, and it's effects are just mind blowing! Here is their website! http://memoryoils.com/

We would be just delighted if you could post this interesting article onto our site and of course join the group if you wish. We could do with a few additional members who are interested and knowledgeable in the field of coconut issues. Below is a short link to the Deejay Coconut Seedling Farm on Facebook.
