With as many issues with fundraising and sometimes even keeping their doors open that some animal shelters have....arguably the problems are sometimes far more desperate in other countries. I can't help but feel for the situation in the Amazon Basin at a shelter called Amazon CARES, located in Peru.
I was surprised at even hearing there is a shelter in the area. They're located at a place which doesn't typically flood - but it has flooded. And animals were hurriedly relocated to the one building on stilts. Under the best of circumstances, this facility hardly had extra money. Today, they are desperate for help. Aside from sheltering animals, the shelter has a strong public education component. This video shows their story. Also, check out this update offered by Molly Mednikow, Amazon CARES Founder.
