If you've never experienced a cat show, and like cats - it's really interesting to check out breeds you never knew existed, from the Birman to Turkish Angora to Cornish Rex.
I'm all for adopting a cat at a shelter, of course....but there's also something to be said for the predictable personalities of pedigreed cats. And actually (unlike dog shows), there is a household pet category at Cat Fanciers' Association Cat Shows.
The Lincoln State Cat Show is February 25-26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Harper College, Building M, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine. Admission is $8, seniors (over 60) $6 and children under 6 years are free. There's also free parking. A show coupon is available HERE.
Aside from the conformation (beauty contest part of the show), there are breed and rescue booths - where you can learn about, even help your favorite breeds. Lots and lots of vendors are selling everything cat. I will be broadcasting live from 10:30 AM for 30 minutes with Bill Moller on WGN Radio. And there's an education ring, with the following seminar schedule:
